My father always told me that intelligence never made anyone happy -- you need a good heart and good friends. What he never said because it was the water in the fishbowl, was that you have to work hard. I don't do this for the money, which makes it easy to take intelligent risks. I do it for a yolk to pull against, for the purpose, and the journey, and the company along the way. I want to do good, and doing well should follow. I am a polymath, a generalist, and an idea person -- but I'm good, historically, at bringing ideas to fruition. And then I want to find the next thing. Henry Jenkins' group at MIT is the only thing that's ever made my resume make sense. I argue to refine ideas, but I do listen, and I am malleable, teachable. I am often intense, but not as arrogant as they say I am.
Mentor skills
I've been working online since 1982. I was an exec at a dotcom that thrived through the bubble, and became Oregon's 3rd fastest growing private company in 2003. I have a great deal of experience in commercial ventures, education, and nonprofits. I'm a polymath. I teach civics and community organizing to teens as a volunteer. I'm excellent supporting controversial topics in PR -- and I've applied this to commerce, politics, and nonprofit advocacy on a national and international scale. I am a good writer. I am a good listener. I am a good mirror. I am a good teacher.
Protégé
While I have experience creating business plans, I am planning a business that has a potential to be larger than any business plan I've done. I am having problems creating models for it. I want it to be social venture -- it's one of those two-edge sword techs that needs social responsibility -- and I'm not quite sure how to do that. It's a contrary market for finding funds. I need someone to reflect off of who is willing to be romanced by an idea that was born outside of the box, and bridges technology, entertainment, medical and marketing applications. Someone who can think in finance, people, art, and social impacts?
